We encourage nonprofits to track non-cash contributions (in-kind contributions, in-kind donations, in-kind grants and in-kind gifts) in QuickBooks Online (QBO)!
Does your nonprofit receive in-kind contributions of services such as advertising, marketing, social media management, web design, website hosting, graphic design, nonprofit administration, bookkeeping, professional services, rent, transportation, event tickets, and/or any other services? What about goods? Products such as food, clothing, toys, household items, computers, furniture, auction items, cars, and more?
In-kind contributions are essential support from donors and are REQUIRED by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to be booked by nonprofits. Every year, nonprofits must answer this question, "Did the organization receive more than $25,000 in non-cash contributions? If 'Yes,' complete Schedule M" (IRS Form 990, Part IV Checklist of Required Schedules, Question 29).
If your current practices and procedures violate the IRS Code and State and Federal Laws, we do not feel comfortable assisting your nonprofit without bringing these issues forward. Also, non-compliance will hinder your organization from obtaining grants.
More than that, in-kind grants can frequently count towards meeting the matching requirements of traditional grants and when booked more accurately reflect the true cost of running your nonprofit. Figuring out what can be booked, how to value them, and how to enter in-kind contributions into QuickBooks can be challenging.
If your nonprofit receives in-kind contributions of either goods or services, then QBO Group can help you with QuickBooks management.
